Scenario Overview
Critical infrastructure — data centers, power control systems, emergency communications, financial networks — cannot tolerate single points of failure. A single cable cut or equipment failure must not cause system-wide outage.
Dual-route fiber backbone design provides physical path redundancy: two independent cable routes between each critical node, using different physical paths, different conduits, and ideally different geographic corridors.
Physical Path Diversity Requirement
True redundancy requires physically diverse routes — not just two cables in the same conduit. Routes must be separated to prevent a single incident (excavation, fire, flood) from affecting both paths.
