Scenario Overview

Tunnels and utility corridors present multiple simultaneous challenges: confined spaces with high humidity, potential flooding, rodent activity, fire safety requirements, and limited access for maintenance.

Cable selection must address all these factors simultaneously: flame-retardant (FR) or low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) sheath for fire safety, anti-rodent armor for mechanical protection, and water-blocking construction for moisture resistance.

Multi-Hazard Protection

Tunnel cables must address fire, rodents, moisture, and mechanical damage simultaneously. No single-factor cable is sufficient — specify cables that meet all applicable requirements.

Tunnel & Corridor Installation

Installation Requirements

  • Use flame-retardant (FR) or LSZH cable throughout tunnel sections
  • Install anti-rodent armored cable in sections with known rodent activity
  • Mount cables on cable trays or support brackets, not directly on tunnel walls
  • Maintain minimum separation from power cables per electrical safety codes
  • Install water drainage at low points; use water-blocking cable in flood-prone sections
  • Use IP67/IP68 rated splice closures and distribution boxes throughout
